REAL LIFE BIBLE STUDY
“doing life together in Christ”

11 And He personally gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into a mature man with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness. 14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit. 15 But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into Him who is the head—Christ. 16 From Him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part. (Ephesians 4:11-16)

In 2017 Westmoreland Baptist Church will be implementing REAL LIFE BIBLE STUDY, simply referred to as LIFE Groups (“on campus” at the usual time of 9:45 AM, and “off campus” at other times and days in the week.) This DOES NOT do away with what we have traditionally called “Sunday School” but, rather, will enhance it by encouraging each class (LIFE Group) to(1) Study the Bible; (2) build relationships around the Word of God; (3) members prepared and encouraged to be involved in at least one ministry of Westmoreland Baptist Church; and (4) adopt a class mission project – which can be local, North American missions, or International missions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the purpose of Life Groups?

Through LifeGroups, we hope to recapture the essence of the early church we read about in the book of Acts, where followers of Christ loved God and each other with amazing passion, lived in community with each other and impacted the world around them in astounding ways. In short, the purpose is to give you a place to belong and to grow.

Can I be in a LifeGroup without being a member at WBC?

Absolutely! LifeGroups are open to all.

What do we do with our kids during our LifeGroup meeting?

Our on-campus Sunday morning group meeting times coincide with WBC Kids. For off-campus groups speak to the group leader about arrangements.

How often will my LifeGroup meet?

We encourage all of our LifeGroups to meet once a week. There are exceptions, but since our goal is to "live life" together, it is essential that groups meet on a weekly basis (there will be breaks throughout the year though!).

Will I be forced to talk about personal things in my life that I'm not comfortable talking about?

You can rest in knowing that no one will be forced to do anything. Our hope and prayer is that as relationships and trust grows, people will naturally open up their lives to others and live a transparent life with each other. Our Sunday morning on-campus LifeGroups will be studying through their typical Bible Study curriculum. Our off-campus groups will be studying through various studies custom to their group.

Would it be okay to invite some of my friends to Life Group?

Most definitely, yes! We encourage you to invite your friends, neighbors and relatives to experience the Christian community you are a part of.

How big will each LifeGroup be?

The ideal size of each group is between three to six families in each group. Our LifeGroups are designed to multiply.  After the group has reached a pre-determind size, the group leader will discuss with Pastor of Discipleship about the best time and approach to multiply the group.
